"Wrecking Ball"
We clawed, we chained, our hearts in vain
We jumped, never asking why
We kissed, I fell under your spell
A love no one could deny
Don't you ever say I just walked away
I will always want you
I can't live a lie, running for my life
I will always want you
I came in like a wrecking ball
I never hit so hard in love
All I wanted was to break your walls
All you ever did was wreck me
Yeah, you, you wreck me
I put you high up in the sky
And now, you're not coming down
It slowly turned, you let me burn
And now, we're ashes on the ground
Don't you ever say I just walked away
I will always want you
I can't live a lie, running for my life
I will always want you
I came in like a wrecking ball
I never hit so hard in love
All I wanted was to break your walls
All you ever did was wreck me
I came in like a wrecking ball
Yeah, I just closed my eyes and swung
Left me crashing in a blazing fall
All you ever did was wreck me
Yeah, you, you wreck me
I never meant to start a war
I just wanted you to let me in
And instead of using force
I guess I should've let you win
I never meant to start a war
I just wanted you to let me in
I guess I should've let you win
Don't you ever say I just walked away
I will always want you
I came in like a wrecking ball
I never hit so hard in love
All I wanted was to break your walls
All you ever did was wreck me
I came in like a wrecking ball
Yeah, I just closed my eyes and swung
Left me crashing in a blazing fall
All you ever did was wreck me
Yeah, you, you wreck me
Yeah, you, you wreck me
After Miley released her "We Can't Stop" song, people were really judging this song before they even listened to it. I, personally had ill feelings toward it from what happened in her performances. I was completely blown away by how lyrical this song is and how much meaning I can feel.
Wrecking Ball is a love song with a metaphor that you only spot if you actually dig deep enough. From the video, people assume "oh, she's naked. she's a (insert bad word here)" even though the meaning is far deeper. The vulnerability in her singing is also reflected in her clothing...or lack of. There is just so much emotion in this song and so much power in Miley's singing. This is the Miley that I appreciate as a musician.
It has a good blend of pop without too much "noise" in the background. As this is mainstream, I'm kind of surprised at how there wasn't more bass, but that doesn't mean I'm complaining. I want to see more of this from Miley and even though I know a lot of people don't like here because she's a (insert bad word here), I'm going to stay on the sidelines and appreciate her for what she is; a musician.

I am in love with this song. But when I saw the music video...heh. Can't say I approved but who am I to judge her decisions? I agree, the emotions and lyrics are so amazing, and it's catchy :)
ReplyDeleteI feel like she could have done the video tastefully and it would have given more too the song. People would have been focused on the lyrics and their meaning and not what she is not wearing or what she was doing in the video. Yes, if you listen to it on the radio it is not such a bad song and there is definite emotion and feeling there but she ruined the song by her inappropriateness which in my opinion was not necessary. Especially since a lot of her fans are young. Once it is seen there is no un-seeing it and every time you hear the song all you can think about is the music video.
ReplyDeleteI actually really like this song and the video! I'm a fan of Miley Cyrus as a person, too...I think that a lot of people don't understand her and take her the wrong way.
ReplyDeleteRefusing to watch the video because I want to keep the song " pure" in my head! I'm not a huge fan of present day miley. I hope she tones it down a bit. But at the same time. She has the right to be herself whoever that may be! I do hope she starts knocking out more amazing songs like this one again thought!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this song, and while the video might have been a bit over the top, I honestly enjoyed it. I thought it showed her vulnerability on an entire different level. The nudity didn't bother me in the least, I just wish she would keep her tongue in her mouth. That's my only complaint. I refuse to judge on her life choices because I've made a few bad choices myself and I'm not qualified to judge. I just her singing continues to mature as it has lately.
