Ben could date anyone he wants, but he only has eyes for the new girl — sarcastic free-spirit, Ani. Luckily for Ben, Ani wants him too. She’s everything Ben could ever imagine. Everything he could ever want.
But that all changes after the party. The one Ben misses. The one Ani goes to alone.
Now Ani isn’t the girl she used to be, and Ben can’t sort out the truth from the lies. What really happened, and who is to blame?
Ben wants to help her, but she refuses to be helped. The more she pushes Ben away, the more he wonders if there’s anything he can do to save the girl he loves.

The amount of times I used the word "stupid" in my review notes is
concerning. This novel was pretty much... Stupid. It deals with very serious topics but just doesn't do it well at all.
The most important thing to note about this novel is that a lot of bad things happen and this novel is supposed to be feelsy. That failed. I didn't feel anything from the writing, the plot, the characters and even with every bad thing that happened.
MCs
Ben & Ani are both idiots driven on their hormones and constantly
thinking about sex. The story starts with some kind of mysterious air but quickly turned me off. Hell, Ben wanted to have sex with Ani before they
had even dated for a MONTH and spoiler alert... They did.
It was a relationship built off nothing and went far too fast to actually be real. Ben's opinion on Ani was that she was the only real girl in the world because she was witty and didn't take his crap but at the same time, she was completely shameless in some of her actions. These
two characters were unbearable to the point I wanted to go Tangled and
smack them with a frying pan. They had no development, were stupid and
on top of that, just plain annoying.
This book
is from the Male's POV yet the author is female. Usually it doesn't
matter but this MC is a PERV with all capitals. It's a complete
incorrect perception on guys. There was an entire paragraph on Ani's legs that just made me shudder. As well, there's a major incorrect
perception on females too. ML (Male Lead) makes it sound like all girls
are airheads except for Ani, who speaks her mind.
Christa's Writing? Fragmented and actually pushed my attention away instead of drawing it in. She used the
word "bigness" in a sentence... Should that even be allowed? Her dialogue is stiff,
descriptions lacking and boringly bland. The story is also about how Ani was "supposedly" raped but I say that with "" because she has memory loss. What actually happens isn't known so I can't even feel bad for her. The story, however, is written like the rape was what happened set in stone.
The
casual use of the word "rape" is also disgusting and offensive to rape
victims. I am deeply offended at this author's ignorance and the way
these very mature and sensitive topics are dealt with. But not even just
rape; the amount of sexual topics in this book shouldn't even make it
classified as YA. Thanks to this book, I now know what a blow job and what sex is in good detail. I feel completely appalled to read this crap and I
rarely ever feel such hatred that I do now.
And lets (vaguely) talk about the ending. After Ani is raped, Ben is trying to be supportive and help her because Ani becomes a girl with no self esteem who has sexual relations with random people. I don't know if this can actually happen in real life but with how Ani acted and how Ben responded, I was just done with this book. However, that ending made me lose faith in everything. It was one of those endings where you kind of go "what the hell? That's it?" It made me feel like reading this was an even bigger waste of my time. It was open ended to the point where nothing happened.

This
book is a complete mess that I completely loathed. There is nothing
positive I can say, everyone was an idiot, characters were unbearable,
plot went nowhere and this novel (if you can even call it that) is an
utter waste of your time.
So...before I started reading you're review for Fault Line, I remembered how much I wanted to read the book before and added it on my TBR list on Goodreads. However, after reading what you wrote I can honestly say I went back on Goodreads and took it off the list. I like that you're honest about what you read and you don't sugar coat anything. I'm not sure whether I want to read this book anymore, but I'm pretty sure the chances of it happening are slim. Thanks for sharing you're opinion with all us readers :)
ReplyDeleteUh, uh... And I had such a high hopes for this one. Too bad it didn't work out for you.
