Collecting Book Boyfriends?

with 3 comments
The perfect book involves a great plot, awesome dialogue, likable characters and [based on pure opinion] a hot guy. Well, to be honest, he doesn't even have to be hot. He just has to say things that are sweet and will steal my heart! It's a lovely thing, really.

When I read books and I end up falling for the boy, it's such a cute thing. It's one of the things I look forward to. And the best part is that I can love as many as I want for a bunch of different reasons! I am a book boyfriend collecter!

What I've been seeing and to be honest, it half upsets me and half makes me curious, is people who collect book boyfriends but think that they are the only ones who can own them. Refer to the picture above. Whenever I see a boy boyfriend of mine that's being loved by someone else, I'm kind of like "oh my gosh! you like him too? let's fangirl!"

What I've seen in multiple places are some readers getting a territorial about boyfriends. Like on message boards and fandom chat clubs. People are fighting over boys and I refuse to get involve but really, why does that need to happen? Love for the same boy is what makes readers united. Am I right? We can all discuss the awesome things the main character and the book boyfriend does, screaming, "GOALS AF!" [also because I'm a stereotypical teen who uses bad "text talk."]

I've even seen someone say "you can't have him because he's already mine" and besides the fact that it's a little selfish, it makes me feel bad as a reader. Why don't we all just be friends, or at least civil?

And just so I add a little bit of sass because, duh, that's who I am: I don't care if the sun and the moon give you permission to "have" this book boyfriend to yourself, I'm disregarding your ownership because I own the book. And the character is in the book. So I [and everyone else] own the character.

What are your thoughts? Do you collect book boyfriends in a totally friendly way? Have you seen some of what I've described on facebook or twitter or instagram? What do you think? Let me know!

I feel the same way you do! I love it when I find someone else who loves a guy in a book! I have seen people fighting over book boyfriends (particularly when the boyfriends are in a popular movie/book franchise such as The Hunger Games and Twilight) but I just get excited when someone else happens to love the same character!
Great post! Happy New Year :-)

I'm definitely on the same page as you! I have a ton of book boyfriends but I don't mind sharing, there are a ton to go around! In fact I love fangirling over book boyfriends with other readers :)

People seriously FIGHT over BOOK BOYFRIENDS? Excuse me while I faint over this tragedy. Yeah, I'll be avoiding fandoms who do that.
Although I do like guys in books, I won't FIGHT over them since they are sadly not real. However, if they are real, it's a whole another story... ;DD
