I feel like authors deserve so much from the readers. I believe that authors are people who really connect with us. It was actually an author who I "sorta" owe my life to. Authors and their words make us feel and they can help us.
In this event, I want to get to know the authors. I’d like to get interviews or blog posts about THEM in connection to their book. Who is the mind behind each author?
For each post, I leave links to connect with the author. Please take the time to use one of those links and leave a message for each author, if you can. It can be towards the book or it can be something as easy as “I love the post you wrote on Out of Time! <33”
Anne Blankman is the new author of Prisoner of the Night and Fog. Her book will be released by Harper! You guys! You guys! She's goood... trust me. :P Below, she's written a random post about her. Hope you have fun reading it!
Random Facts about Anne Blankman
My parents named me after a fictional character--Anne in Anne of Green Gables. Seriously. I don't have red hair, but when I was twelve we moved to a house with gray gables. How's that for a bizarre coincidence?
I've always loved books. One of my earliest memories is racing across the children's area of my local public library to get to story time.
I grew up in Niskayuna, a small town in upstate New York. The highlight of most of our weekends was going to Blockbuster Video. Hmm, maybe that's one of the reasons I liked to read so much...
In high school and college, I rowed on the crew team. It's a great sport, but for races you have to wear full-body unisuits so your clothes don't get caught in the boat equipment. Nothing like being a gangly, flat-chested fifteen-year-old forced to wear skintight clothes in front of the boy you like. *shudder* On the plus side, it did end up making really comfortable with my body.
Remember that earlier comment about red hair? Well, I did kind of have red hair for awhile. Before a crew race in high school, my teammates and I decided it would be a great idea to dye our hair maroon as a sign of our school spirit (silver and maroon were our school colors). So we mixed Kool-Aid with boiling water and took turns immersing our hair in the sink. We thought we looked great, and the color would wash out in a few days anyway. Except...we read the directions wrong. The color is temporary if you use COLD water. If you use boiling water, the color is PERMANENT. :O
The first time I met my now-husband, Mike, was in our college dining hall. He seemed nice, but I was sure he was going to turn out to be a jerk because he was a) really cute and b) a football player. I figured that anyone that good-looking and athletic was probably unbearably egotistical. One of my best friends convinced me to give him a chance. I'll owe her for the rest of my life because I fell head over heels for Mike, and we've been together ever since.

ReplyDeleteAw, great post! It's cool to be named after a character. I'm not named after anyway, but that's okay. :P And I've heard about Kool-Aid hair! It's really cool, but I've never done it. I actually haven't done anything to my hair, haha, it's completely natural. :D I'm looking forward to reading Prisoner of Night and Fog!

ReplyDeleteI am beyond excited about this book. I haven't even read it yet, and I've already hyped it up to my friends. It's also going to be my book club pick for our May meeting! I love all of Anne's random facts. How fun is it to be named after a book character-especially one as great as Anne Shirley!

ReplyDeleteI was already excited to read this, but then when I went to Anne's Twitter page, I found out she lives in Yorktown, VA which is so awesome because I went to high school there, and I now live one city away, which is only about ten minutes from it. It is very rare to have a big-time, traditionally published author from around here. I would know - I was born and raised here. Anyway, I thought that was really awesome. And even more exciting is that she said she is going to have an author event here soon! YAY! :)

Where I live the only sports we have is football, basketball, baseball, and softball. I used to play archery at my old school, But I would join a crew team if we had one :) I Still have my natural hair.... but the story was funny.

ReplyDeleteI cannot wait till Prisoner of Night & Fog comes out, it sounds like a fantastic historical fiction book and it's set in a period I've always been super interested in!
