"I Am Not A Robot"

You've been acting awful tough lately
Smoking a lot of cigarettes lately
But inside, you're just a little baby
It's okay to say you've got a weak spot
You don't always have to be on top
Better to be hated than loved, loved, love for what you're not

You're vulnerable, you're vulnerable
You are not a robot
You're lovable, so lovable
But you're just troubled

Guess what? I'm not a robot, a robot
Guess what? I'm not a robot, a robot

You've been hanging with the unloved kids
Who you never really liked and you never trusted
But you are so magnetic, you pick up all the pins
Never committing to anything
You don't pick up the phone when it ring, ring, rings
Don't be so pathetic, just open up and sing

I'm vulnerable, I'm vulnerable
I am not a robot
You're lovable, so lovable
But you're just troubled

Guess what? I'm not a robot, a robot
Guess what? I'm not a robot, a robot

Can you teach me how to feel real?
Can you turn my power off?
And let the drum beat drop

Guess what? I'm not a robot [x2]

Guess what? I'm not a robot, a robot [x4]

My Thoughts

I Am Not a Robot talks about a person who's trying to fit in. This is a really relatable topic for a lot of people, me included. I really like the wording in this song. There's a display of more than one different scenarios of someone acting like a "robot".

In terms of the music, it's catchy. I like how Marina's voice isn't overpowered by the music that's evidently there. It's a fun song that tells a human issue in a very nonchalant way. Marina's voice sounds very smart and she sounds a little bit like she's chiding us (for being robots).

I also really like the video. It's very "weird" if you don't get it. I understand it and it goes very well with the video. Each different "face" of Marina is a different side of her. The one without the makeup is her naturally, the one with the glitter is the robot, the one with the jewels is how other people see her, the one with the stripes is what she wants to be. It goes very well. Trust me.

And yes, I recommend this song. It's very fun and light to listen to.

I love Marina and how Electra Heart is her alter ego that objectifies men for a change and asserts the concept of feminism and how important it is. Her songs always have so much meaning and I love how the music video shows all these different facets of her. Great review!
