Sophie Bloom’s junior year has been a bit of a train wreck. After the world’s greatest kiss re-awakened Sophie’s true identity as Persephone (Goddess of Spring and Savior of Humanity), she fought her dragon-lady guidance counselor to the death, navigated mean girl Bethany’s bitchy troublemaking, and dealt with the betrayal of her backstabbing ex, Kai (sexy Prince of Darkness). You’d think a girl could catch a break.
Yeah, right.
With Zeus stepping things up, it’s vital that Sophie retrieve Persephone’s memories and discover the location of the ritual to stop Zeus and Hades. So when Aphrodite strikes a deal that can unlock Sophie’s pre-mortal past, what choice does the teen goddess have but to accept?
The mission: stop media mogul Hermes from turning Bethany into a global mega-celebrity. The catch? Aphrodite partners Sophie and Kai to work together … and treat this suicide mission as a date. Which could work out for Sophie’s plan to force Kai to admit his feelings for her–if she doesn’t kill him first.
Add to that the fact that BFF Theo’s love life and other BFF Hannah’s actual life are in Sophie’s hands, and suddenly being a teenager—even a godlike one—seems a bit like … well, hell. Whatever happened to dinner and a movie?
The YA romantic comedy/Greek mythology fireworks continue to fly in My Date From Hell. Love meets comedy with a whole lot of sass in book two of this teen fantasy romance series. Breaking up is easy; dating is deadly.

My Thoughts
When I think about sequels, I want them to compare to the original; be an extension of it. This book, however, kind of stayed the same. Which, so you know, is a good thing.
I got the feeling that this story was just the beginning from the first book. With how big this story is, I can see why the first book acted a little like an introduction to the magical, Greek world, but this book, was full on mythology... well, urbanized mythology (thanks Sophie). I wanted something bigger than I got, though. I wanted this sequel to blow my mind, because it's a second book in the series, but I was let down.
Again, this book was told in the exact same voice. I appreciated the consistency in Sophie's character and I love her personality, but she was very naive. I can understand why in the first book; she's being told that she's a Greek goddess in human form. That's got to be a wake up call. But after what she's been through, the whole "make jokes and change the severity of the situation" thing was not working for me as much as it was in the first book. I wanted some kind of development from her as a character, but was a little disappointed; good thing she's a likeable character to begin with.
What was actually kind of weird was that I loved Kai in this one. He developed so many layers in this one. He had a bunch of different sides shown during the book that kept me guessing. The way he carried himself was such an infallible attitude, even though we all knew he wasn't. It made me so happy when I saw him start to open to Sophie, even though she was worried he only liked the Persephone side of her. I also liked how compatible he was with Sophie and they pretty much made me very happy. They deserved each other!
The story was still hard to understand and lagging. I was especially worried when the characters switched locations like *snaps finger*. I also couldn't quite grasp the concepts in the middle because there was subplot upon subplot and I just wanted things to get moving. It's enough for it to be slow for book 1, getting the reader to adjust to the idea but it's getting a little old in book two.
Honestly, this story is fun, but not feelsy. I was a little happy to see Kai and Sophie together but I wanted some anticipation feels because of the whole "save the world" plot. And honestly, at this point, I'm thinking that the conclusion to this series will be really slow and the actual "interesting" part will last like a page... if I'm lucky; that's how this series has been going, in my experience anyway.
I still found it interesting and despite its flaws, I was sucked into the story. I wish it would've been better explained and more described, but I was happy with what I was reading. I probably won't remember this book as it was fun, but not impacting, but I will be definitely reading the last book to see how it ends!

Don’t miss My Life From Hell, releasing March 20, 2014. Which is also spring equinox and
the date of Sophie's final showdown with Zeus and Hades in the book.
Hmm I don't know how I feel about books that remain consistent. I like it because if the book was good to begin with, it's good for me, but if I didn't like it then it kind of is disappointing. Glad you liked this one!
