Title: How to Love

Before: Reena Montero has loved Sawyer LeGrande for as long as she can remember: as natural as breathing, as endless as time. But he’s never seemed to notice that Reena even exists…until one day, impossibly, he does. Reena and Sawyer fall in messy, complicated love. But then Sawyer disappears from their humid Florida town without a word, leaving a devastated—and pregnant—Reena behind.
After: Almost three years have passed, and there’s a new love in Reena’s life: her daughter, Hannah. Reena’s gotten used to being without Sawyer, and she’s finally getting the hang of this strange, unexpected life. But just as swiftly and suddenly as he disappeared, Sawyer turns up again. Reena doesn’t want anything to do with him, though she’d be lying if she said Sawyer’s being back wasn’t stirring something in her. After everything that’s happened, can Reena really let herself love Sawyer LeGrande again?
In this breathtaking debut, Katie Cotugno weaves together the story of one couple falling in love—twice.

My Thoughts
May include spoilers, read at your own risk! (I'm really bad at going spoiler-free as much as I try.)
How to Love is an interesting story about the same couple that falls in love twice. It was a 5 star from me and I just couldn't not have a Novel Melodies for it! I see this one in (mainly) Sawyer's POV but it can go both ways, even though it's a girl who sings the song (and it's a little girly.) This is Still Into You by Paramore, which is not one of my "favorites" but also fits this book pretty well!
"Still Into You"
FIRST VERSE
Can't count the years on one hand
That we've been together
I need the other one to hold you
Make you feel, make you feel better
Sawyer's loud and "bad boy" personality is confident enough to make Reena feel better.
It's not a walk in the park
To love each other
They kind of fight and have worries all the time.
But when our fingers interlock,
Can't deny, can't deny you're worth it
'Cause after all this time I'm still into you
The main reason I chose this song. "Still Into You" describes the idea that even after a long period of time or the two being away, they were still into each other. And in How to Love, it makes complete sense!
CHORUS
I should be over all the butterflies
But I'm into you (I'm into you)
I doubt that Sawyer will ever admit to being nervous, but its there.
And baby even on our worst nights
I'm into you (I'm into you)
Again, this is a couple that was made to break (in one version) so there was so much drama.
Let 'em wonder how we got this far
'Cause I don't really need to wonder at all
In the "future" version, Reena's family questions why she's letting Sawyer back into her life and she's fully confident in her decision.
Yeah, after all this time I'm still into you
The same couple that falls in love twice. Yeah.
SECOND VERSE
Recount the night that
I first met your mother
You're gonna have to read the book...
And on the drive back to my house
I told you that, I told you that I loved ya
SQUEE! This book had so many adorable moments!
You felt the weight of the world
Fall off your shoulder
This is more for Reena because she's the "good girl" character and with Sawyer's "idc" attitude, it definitely loosened Reena up.
And to your favorite song
We sang along to the start of forever
And after all this time I'm still into you
Another example of an adorable moment like in How to Love! Again, I gave it 5 stars, hehe.
CHORUS
BRIDGE
Some things just, some things just make sense
And one of those is you and I (Hey)
No one thought they worked out because they were so different, but they did. In the end, everything fell into place.
Some things just, some things just make sense
And even after all this time (Hey)
I'm into you, baby, not a day goes by
That I'm not into you
Even though Reena was left with heartbreak, they're still into each other. And even though Reena's angry at Sawyer...
CHORUS

It's a little repetitive of a song, but it describes the feel of the story perfectly! <3
I can totally see How To Love and Still Into You together. I love Paramore, and I also love this song, but I really want to buy more of their songs soon. Especially since How to Love is about a couple coming back together :)
ReplyDeleteYou paired this with Landry Park? DLKfjaldkfja. I must come back to this post after I read it. Love the song - so cute. I love your take on the lyrics and how they fit with the book.
