So I do this thing where I want to be able to experience/learn how to do everything before I get old. I know I have lots of time but I'm constantly looking for new things. I tweeted this out, saying that I would love to become an author, produce music, play a concert, learn how to paint, blow something up in science class and on that list was, make videos.
As luck would have it, I was watching old movies in my basement when I stumbled upon a tripod [it its original box!] and a video camera. I filmed singing videos before, on my other channel but those were done with a fourth generation iPod. So to be able to use what I feel like is legit stuff was so cool! It must be fate because none of this stuff was used and when I asked my parents, they were more than happy to see it being used.
The question I want to address right now... "Are you leaving blogging?"
Most sane people would be like, "yeah, since I'm doing time consuming videos, I should probably stick with one medium." LEL NO. I am a glutton for punishment and the only time I feel alive is when I'm stressed out about something. I will be blogging AND booktubing. [At this point, I'm thinking of BookTubing on the side... but WHO KNOWS! Maybe one day I'll feel comfortable recording a video while my parents are in the house.]
I filmed my first video, which is an intro video, here. It explains why I'm using my blog's name for my BookTube channel and what "Out of Time" means. I also crack one or two [painful] jokes. My apologies in advance. I'd really appreciate all of the support as I'm right back to being a newbie again!
Also, tips. If you have tips/feedback on BookTubing, lay it on me! I need it.

I knew I wanted to celebrate me starting a new thing with a giveaway but I wasn't sure what to give away. And then... It hit me.

DeleteOMG NOVA I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL ALREADY! Your personality is fabulous and I agree that some book blog names are conversation starters! A booktuber I recommend is def. KASSIDY VOINCHE! She's my favorite youtuber and she's so friendly!
ReplyDeleteLOLOL my personality is... strange. My pre filming ritual is drinking an energy drink. AND OOH I'll check out Kassidy!!
DeleteSo many people venturing into booktube these days! I seriously admire you guys, I tried booktubing ages ago but basically I have no patience and couldn't be bothered doing all the editing and stuff and yeah...I gave up pretty quickly XD
ReplyDeleteAnd wow, you did a fantastic job for your first video! It honestly doesn't look like a first video, plus you're so bubbly and enthusiastic. Definitely going to be following your channel :)
I've actually found that the actual filming part is SO much fun. i didn't think i would be cut out for it but i'm starting to see myself actually doing this more! your blogging skills are on point, though, so who cares? GO YOU!
Deletewhat?! i thought i wasn't doing it right! there are still lots to learn [i only just learned how to have a video on top of a picture! HOW COOL]
Cool! What an exciting new adventure. I'm really not at all familiar with booktube, but I'll have to look it up now.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI COMMEND YOU FOR BOOKTUBING. There is literally NO WAY I would ever have the courage to do something like that. ;) Also, your enthusiasm is contagious <3
ReplyDeleteIt's actually not as a hard as I thought it would be. Also i like to talk so there's that XD and yay! the energy drink worked!
DeleteOMG NOVA I'M SO SO SO SO EXCITED FOR THIS. and this is going to sound weird but i'm always curious about what bloggers sound like when they speak so this definitely satiated my weird curiosity. I LOVE YOUR PERSONALITY AND THIS VIDEO WAS SO CUTE AND LOL NOVA I DID LAUGH AND ALSO CRY BC UR GOALS. also your video filming / making skills = SOLID. i'm so pumped for your videos to come!
ReplyDeleteYES I'VE WONDERED THIS TOO. When I read others comments, I think I use my own voice? It's weird but now that I think about it....
DeleteAND IF YOU LOVE ME ON CAMERA BE READY TO MEET ME - LIVE AND UNEDITED. Oh noes.
GOOD LUCK!!!! I really want to start one too and I am soooooooooooooo nervous!!! I just hate the idea of having to listen and see myself on camera when I am editing, I'd be so embarrassed. Hopefully I get over that soon because booktube looks like so much fun!!! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! And it's normal to be nervous. I recommend just filming it. It's a lot of fun. Also, don't worry about being perfect - once I realized that I can edit, I gave up on having a perfect take. I think listening to yourself and seeing yourself builds self esteem, IMO
DeleteLoved the video, and trust me, you're a natural at this! Good luck, Nova!! x
ReplyDeleteRuzaika @ The Regal Critiques
LOLOL I've never been called a natural at many things so thank you XD
DeleteI've considered branching out onto YouTube too! I think it's such a fun platform and lately I've found myself increasingly more disenchanted with blogging. And not the community! Just...sometimes I hate spending hours in front of a computer screen, writing book reviews, and then getting almost zero interaction with them. So I've been thinking about expanding to a platform that's a bit different, and I want to do something with that platform.
ReplyDeleteBasically: I don't ever want to stop talking books, and I think YouTube is an awesome platform for it, too. Hopefully at some point I gain the confidence to do it! Your video was great, Nova, and I hope you continue making more videos. :P
Unfortunately, I feel the exact same way. IDK for if me if it's because of the drama I was in or because of something else but I feel the need for human interaction and after doing a few videos, I've realized how fun it is!
DeleteI hate doing book review videos, though. I have attention span problems and if I can't sit through a review, it doesn't make sense for me to be video-ing them. I'm thinking my channel is more for tags and things that require speaking and visual. like for example, I'm working on a "remedy for a book slump" and i don't think i could do it on a post as nicely as video.
Thanks Sydney! If you ever do it, I would love to see it <3
Congrats on entering the booktubing world Nova! You're amazing at it already and I can't wait to see more of your videos :)
ReplyDeleteEugenia @ Genie In A Book
Aw thank you *hugs*
DeleteCongrats on booktubing! I love that bookish community so much <3
ReplyDeleteSame!
Delete*subscribe* FUN FUN FUN! I'm also combing these platforms (although I definitely prefer book blogging, but hey, it gives a bigger audience :D)
ReplyDeleteI'm more comfortable with book blogging but I do this thing where when i start something new, I become obsessed with it for a while so I'll tell you which I prefer in a few months, when I'm feeling impartial ;)
DeleteGahhhh! Yay! Super excited for more videos! Love watching BookTube and everything is going to be so much better now that you have started making videos and gah! Excited excited.
ReplyDelete~Kaitlin @ Next Page Please!
KATILIN THAT IS THE SWEETEST THING SOMEONE'S SAID TO ME. I hope my quirk can brighten up your feed ;)
DeleteI'm so excited for your BookTube videos, Nova!! You definitely have that "on-screen presence" - such poise and a fun personality. I'll be on the lookout for your next vid! :-)
ReplyDeleteJulia Anne @ Peach Print
I hope by poise you mean, "hopped up on an energy drink" because that's basically how things went down. Thank you anyway. Julia, you're so awesome <3
DeleteI'm so excited that you get to do BookTube!!! I have to be honest, I don't watch BookTube (or any of those famous YouTubers at all) because I easily get too distracted, but hey, I support you on this! And I'm so happy that you're opening up to more means of sharing your love for books. YOU GO GIRL <3
ReplyDeleteJillian @ Jillian's Books
I actually have the same problem, which is why I didn't do this sooner. But i was like, "Okay, my attention span problem IS a problem and i'm going with the whole exposure angle for a cure." I still cannot sit through long videos without doing something on the side. Usually, I listen to what people are saying while I blog. [Also why i can't watch K Dramas. I can't focus on the screen.]
DeleteThat's why I put music in the background of my videos. I'm HOPING it makes things a little easier to focus.
I only recently discovered booktube and I'm in LOVE!! I pretty much stopped watching TV haha. I love your first video, it's great! I really want to start a channel too and just yesterday I was watching a bunch of "how to" videos. I would do same as you and do it in conjunction with my blog, probably post content that goes together. Good luck with your new adventure!
ReplyDeleteI totally get that. I stopped binge watching tv too [which is alarming. i need to start again!] hey, go for it! if you want to start a channel, doooo ittt! [then tell me where i can find it!]
Deletethank you, i'm hoping it'll go well!
OMG, it's taken me so long to comment. But I watched the booktube video and it's SO GOOD. I'm gonna be honest, I'm not really into BookTubing, because I read rather fast and hate to give up that advantage for audio/video formats. But y'know, if you're doing it, I'll probably get into it really soon.
ReplyDeletePS: Love the hair!
AW THANK YOU. I'm real nervous because it's my first but a lot of people were saying that I have nothing to worry about so I'm like *lets out breath* okay, i won't freak out anymore.
DeleteI FEEL YOUR PAIN. I cannot do audiobooks either :( whenever, i watch long booktube videos, i'm blogging or playing some computer game on the sideline. I feel really bad admitting this but sometimes, i'll watch a video in 2x speed because that's the ONLY way i can focus. like you, i'm an insanely fast reader and for some reason, my mouth works faster than my brain and i'm going a mile a minute.
but awww that's so sweet <3 if you don't watch my videos because they aren't your fave format, don't worry about it! that's also why i'm gonna try maintaining the blog at the same time!
THANKKKKKSSSSS "california beach hair" LOL
I LOVE THAT VIDEO! You sound like a natural in there, and I am excited to see what else you've planned! But isn't it weird to be a newbie in that community when you're an already established person in another?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway, btw, girl!
Yippee, you are such a natural at booktubing Nova! I love your introduction on Out of Time and the different aspects that make it up. Great video!
ReplyDeleteYOU ARE A SPECTACULAR BOOK TUBER!!! :D Seriously this was so fun to watch. XD I'm not a real big fan of youtube...just because, gah, I don't even know? I have an attentions span of a gnat, which is odd considering I can spend HOURS reading but like I wander away from videos after 3 seconds. BUT I WAS GLUED TO YOURS. YOU'RE SO FUNNY AND ENTERTAINING.
ReplyDeleteI feel VERY accomplished right now because I have the same problem. Honestly, i don't even know why I'm booktubing >.< [It's probably because of the music. I found that I concentrate better with background music so i'm like, "I'll do it in my videos too.]
DeleteHEYY NOVA :) Ahh I can't wait to see more from your booktube, I'm sure it'll be fabulous! Good luck with it!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh Nova congrats on BookTube! I've always wanted to do BookTube but I'm nervous...maybe I'll try it out eventually! You've got such a sweet and fun personality, even more so in your videos! I can't wait to watch more!! :D <3
ReplyDeleteEm @ Books & Cleverness
i know i'm like waaaaaay behind on this, but i'm FINALLY getting caught up on my feedly and FINALLY commenting on posts! (sorry) CONGRATS ON BOOKTUBE NOVA <3333 i admire your time management skills to maintain a booktube AND a book blog. you're not from this world because obviously, a task like that is only for magic creatures like unicorns. conclusion: nova is secretly a unicorn. i don't plan on doing what you're doing anytime soon because 1/ i'm not as magical as you, 2/ i can hardly maintain my regular blog. anyway, i look forward to watching your videos!! xxx alexandra @ twirlingpages
ReplyDeleteI would totally love to do more booktubing, but I'm terrible at editing and adding fun things like music and transitions and all that! Any tips or advice?!? Hehe :)
ReplyDeletei think everything comes with practice (: after my fifth video now, i think i'm a lot more comfortable with the editing software. in terms of music, i use karaoke tracks of my favorite songs but with programs like iMovie, i think there is score that comes with the program. my only advice is to go 100% with the video. don't worry if what you're doing is embarrassing or too "out there." if anything, you can edit it out. oh! also! if you do one continuous take, i find it easier to edit than a lot of small clips. good luck with everything <3
