The Ultimate Book Tag

with 20 comments
Huge thanks to Chiara for tagging me. You are a lovely human with equally amazing hair. [Goals!] Now, here are 25 questions that truly make this the ULTIMATE book tag. I understand if you don't read all 25 answers - it's pretty heavy.

1. Do you get sick while reading in the car?
Yep. One would think I'm on a rollercoaster.

2. Which author’s writing style is completely unique to you and why?
Sally Green. The way she writes is artistic, in fragments and sometimes there'll be something like the same word for the entire page. It's creative and unique. Too bad I can't stand her books.

3. Harry Potter Series or the Twilight Saga? Give 3 points to defend your answer.
Harry Potter all the way.

1) I grew up with Harry Potter.
2) The supporting characters in HP are just important as the title character whereas the supporting characters in Twilight are meant to make Bella look better.
3) The plot for Harry Potter kicks in pretty early while Twilight's takes three hundred pages [in a 400 paged book] before we can get any action.

4. Do you carry a book bag? If so, what is in it (besides books)?
Nope. I read on my phone in public because I don't like other people creeping on what I'm reading. Especially if it's a contemporary romance and the people in my class are pinheads.

5. Do you smell your books?
WHO DOESN'T?

6. Books with or without little illustrations?
LOVE illustrations even though I'm not a visual learner.

7. What book did you love while reading but discovered later it wasn’t quality writing?
...Twilight? Those were dark, dark times.

8. Do you have any funny stories involving books from your childhood? Please share!
I used to go to the library and borrow 20 books at a time. They were like 50 pages each so I breezed through them in a week. But one time I was walking out and the lady was like, "that stack is taller than you!" [I was also a short kid. I went into sixth grade barely being 4 ft.

also, i imagine this is how i meandered around a library as a kid. who
am i fooling? i still do this.

9. What is the tiniest book on your shelf?
My tiny-ass editions of [Harry Potter] HP1, HP3 and HP4. [And just to add, HP2 and HP5 are paperback illustrated covers. HP6 and HP7 are the same illustration style but in hardcover. The non-matchingness kills me every time.]

10. What is the thickest book on your shelf?
City of Heavenly Fire - no contest. Although, I think Winter will beat that once I get my hands on it.

11. Do you write as well as read? Do you see yourself in the future as being an author?
I keep going back to writing but I literally hate everything I write. I don't know if it's because I have an esteem problem or because I've read too much and hold myself to a high standard.

12. When did you get into reading?
Very early on. My parents aren't readers but they wanted me to be and starting a blog surpassed their expectations.

13. What is your favourite classic book?
Lel. I don't read classics. I read retellings of classics. [Also Easy A and She's the Man are bomb.]

14. In school what was your best subject?
My marks tell me that Geography is my best subject but I've always felt like I do well in English. Let's pretend like English isn't my lowest mark. English is so hard and I got into a disagreement with the teacher so he marked me based on opinion. Whatever.
But to be honest, I'm decent at a lot of subjects and I owe it all to books.

15. If you were given a book as a present that you had read before and hated, what would you do?
First, I would smile politely because books aren't cheap. I would probably keep it or give it away if I can. Best case - I sell it for a bit of cash to buy another book.

16. What is a lesser known series that you know of that is similar to Harry Potter or the Hunger Games?
Something that seriously bothers me is when publishers pitch their new book as "blah blah blah meets blah blah blah" because it usually raises my expectations and when I read the actual book, it's not that great. I see books being compared to Hunger Games all the time. I would compare Endgame to The Hunger Games [also, I refuse to finish Endgame because ugh.]

17. What is a bad habit you always do while blogging?
Does getting easily distracted count as a bad habit? Oh! I always draft a million posts but never finish any of them. Seriously, I've got at least 20 posts that are half-done.

18. What is your favorite word?
Hella. Or a word that is bad that I should not say on this post.

19. Are you a nerd, dork, or dweeb? Or all of the above?
Since these terms have negative connotations, I'm going to go with the title of unicorn. Ladies and gents, I am a unicorn.

20. Vampires or Fairies? Why?
Vampires and only because of Julie Kagawa's The Blood of Eden series. Battling humanity is a big thing for me and I love reading about it. Also, faeries always give me the image of a barbie movie. #sorrynotsorry.

21. Shapeshifters or Angels? Why?
GUYS. I'M NOT GOOD AT FANTASY. Angels are okay, or at least the ones I've read. I enjoyed Angelfall and for a while, The Mortal Instruments was my jam. However, I have no interest to read about the fallen angel crap from Fitzpatrick or Kate.

22. Spirits or Werewolves? Why?
Spirits. Now here's an easy question. Werewolves are an eyeroll at this point. The whole "pack" thing feels like politics and I'm not about that life.

23. Zombies or Vampires? Why?
Both? Again, Julie Kagawa's Blood of Eden series features both.

24. Love Triangle or Forbidden Love?
Can I say neither? Forbidden love tends to get whiny and a love triangle never made sense to me. You can't bounce between two guys or two girls [the latter rarely happens] and play with their feelings like that.

25. And finally: Full on romance books or action-packed with a few love scenes mixed in?
ACTION PACKED. DUH. WHAT IS THIS QUESTION? Sometimes I love books without romance because the story is so gripping that the romance would just pull it down.

I tag anyone who's ever commented on my blog. Send me a tweet if you do this tag. I'll definitely check it out. What did you think of my answers? Anything surprise you?

My Twilight obsessing days was a rough time for me lol. I love English but I don't always get good marks in it because I feel like you have to look so far into everything!

I agree! My love for English depends on the book that we're studying. If I hate it, there's NO CHANCE

This sounds like such a fun tag! I have a love/hate relationship with Twilight. I LOVED the movies, I thought they were super great. But I did not like the books. Being in Bella's head was annoying.

Even though I love to read and write, I absolute dread English. I hate analyzing and writing papers about boring books. I just want to enjoy the book with out going several layers deeper than I'd like to.

LOL I don't like either [now] XD

It does get tedious, thinking about what the character means when he walks a certain way. Like... whaa?

I agree with so many of your answers! Like you, I also used to get major car sickness when I was younger, but as of recent, I've been able to read without much of a problem. Reading in the car kills so much of that boring downtime on long drives.

This seems like such a fun tag! So many things I can relate to in your answers. I remember walking out of the library with about 15 books and when they were all due, I would return them and check out 15 more. (No way! You couldn't have been under 4ft at 6th grade!) I haven't read Twilight yet but the plot just doesn't seem like something for me. I don't do paranormal books... XD

Twilight isn't even paranormal in a way. It's really romance and cheezeballs.

I love your answer for #5. Tis true.

*gasps* I have a ton of blogging drafts too. . . that I rarely finish.

I don't read a lot of paranormal. But I'll definitely keep those ideas in mind when I pick up a paranormal book.

Don't feel bad about the writing thing though. I think most writers on hard on themselves. I know I am. If you really want to write though, don't let anything hold you back. Just write! You can always edit later. :)

I love reading tags! They're always so much fun.
About the writing thing - I'm that way too. From the time I was little, I would always complain about how much I hate writing and how bad I am at it. However, my teachers always seemed to think otherwise. I'm always convinced everything I write is crap, but then my friends at school will tell me it's really good, or my English teacher, or someone will say that they love my review. I think we're just too hard on ourselves sometimes. I know that for me, I'm my own harshest critic.

HARRY POTTER, AWWW YIZZ! Twilight had loads of great background characters (cough cough The Volturi) but Edward and Bella were just too cheesy for words.

LOL at number 7. Same thing happened to me and I realised it only when I was in Eclipse. HAHAHA.

Dude, She’s the Man is grenade! Have you watched 10 Things I Hate About You? It’s a retelling of The Taming of the Shrew and it’s amazing! Heath Ledger is *swoon* in it.

Ugh, your English teacher sounds wacko. :/

Agree with number 17! And I also write book reviews, forget about them, and they mysteriously appear a year later. I have 50+ book reviews written on various sheets of paper lying around my room.

Really enjoyed your answers on this one, HAHAHA.

IMO the background characters were brushed under the rug so none of us will ever know what they could've been

    This is so AWESOME!!!

I totally get sick reading in the car as well - can't do it.

I read my Kindle out in public because people really throw some shade your way if you're caught with a physical book. I've had people take my book from me to look at it, laugh and point at me, and I even had one of my teachers in college say to me in the hallways (where I was reading a book before her class), "I wish I had time to read a book."
I hate it. So Kindle it is.

Don't worry, Nova - I was a HUGE Twilight fan one time, too. In fact, it got me back into reading. So....I hate to say it, but I owe a bit of thanks to the series.

Aww! I'm so sorry to see that you hate what you write! If it helps, I do as well. I get really negative towards myself and then abandon my writing. If I ever do complete my story, I decided that I am just going to put it up on a site for free. I no longer wish to become a published writer.

My worst habit is taking all day to reply to everyone, because I can't seem to stay still long enough to write more than 5 to 6 replies.

I am TOTALLY A FAIRY FAN HERE!! Blackbringer, woowoo!!

Oh, I so love that you tagged everyone who has ever commented. I guess that means I'm up?
This is a really neat tag, it's kind of really long but not *really* long, and I love those questions. And from now on? I'm totally going to refer to you as Unicorn. You have done this, Nova! (And what an awesome choice of mystical creature you made.)
Also, I have intent love for Easy A also. It is ace.

This totally IS the ultimate book tag :D although I have to disagree with you about faeries - they're obviously superior to vampires. Totes agree that forbidden love and love triangles are both lame :P

Yay for doing this tag! :D

I don't really like reading in public and showing the title and front cover to everyone. Reading is such a private thing to me (which actually sounds ridiculous because I share what I am reading with HUNDREDS of people through blogging, but that's different - I swear!).

The book smell is divine. I want it all the time. Everywhere.

I think the "hating everything I write" is something we all go through. I detested everything everything I wrote as a teenager. It wasn't until last year that I really started to actually LIKE my craft. So keep writing, Nova!!

Someone should totally write a faerie novel where the fe are super kind and pretty and sweet like the Barbie ones. I would read that XD

    Great answers, lovely! <3

Woot! I finally wrote mine. It was fun and sometimes hard to answer, but I enjoyed it. Thanks for tagging everyone!

I like the smell of new books, better than old books (those make me sneeze). And I love that you picked Harry Potter over Twilight. I enjoyed Twilight for what it was and it was a series that brought my Mom, my sister and I together in reading, but so did HP!
