Some typical things: eating, sleeping, blogging, complaining about grades, crying over my "failed tests" [getting a 92] and using my phone for bad purposes. No, I do not play Plants Versus Zombies 2 during all my classes.
Yes, I totally had to scratch my head to think of the cool stuff I did this month. For one, I was inspired by Jessi @ Novel Heartbeat to make a collage out of swag. We went to Home Outfitters so I could buy a blank picture frame.
Also, I need to rant. All month, this kid in my science class makes really stupid comments at everything I do. I ask the teacher a question and he goes, "you aren't always right!" I talk to my friend and my teacher gets annoyed and he goes, "thank the f* lord, I thought she would never shut up." I wish people would just mind their own business and not make stupid comments when it's uncalled for.
And now, to end with Nova's funny story of the month because happy things. This time, I have two.
1) I was in the library yesterday with my friends and the librarian was like, "oh it's the hooligans again!" because we're always in the same spot at the same time. She's joking, of course. So I say, in my naturally sarcastic voice, "I love books. I read all the time." She calls me a liar and imagine her surprise when I start talking.
Her: what books do you read?
Me: can you give me examples because there are too many.
Her: Uglies by Dan Wells?
Me: You mean Scott Westerfeld? Uglies was okay but I picked up Afterworlds and that was a trainwreck.
Her: [surprised] What about that new one... The Red Queen?
Me: LOVED it! Plot twist at the end was amazing. I got to read it early too [explain about ARCs...]
Her: And there's one my kids are talking about. Snow Like...?
Me: Ashes? Snow like Ashes? That was is a definite recommendation and the author is such a sweetheart.
Her: How do you know the author?
Me: [smiling at this point] [Explain the whole blogger thing] I was really lucky to host her release day twitter party with a good friend [*cough* Nikki]
And now... she's guilt tripping me to go to the book club that meets once a month. I kind of don't want to go because I've never gone before but I think I will because why not?
Also, my friends during this conversation were like, "How does this girl know so much about books?"
2) The scene is after band practice in the music room. The band teacher is also my music teacher.
Me: But sir! I have a 93% in your class. Can't we bump it to a 95?
Him: Work hard for it.
Me: [someone is playing black widow on the xylophone] Do you know this song?
Him: [starts singing some old song]
Me: Is your age in triple digits?
Him: Your 93 just went to a 89.
Me: Your favorite book, The Chrysalids. Yeah, it sucks. [He was also my English teacher.]
Him: 85
Me: You dress badly. [walks out the door]
Him: 80.
Me: [comes back in] Really badly. [runs away]
And I don't know what happened after but I for one thought it was hilarious. And if you were wondering, yes, I do talk to my teachers like this. But only because I know them well enough to know that they aren't going to kill me.
I don't recommend trying this with just any teacher - you have to know their personality enough to know you won't get in trouble.
Review
I lost the shots of the other S&S books unfortunately. |
Something insanely cool happened. I got my first unsolicited book. Well, I'm getting my first. It hasn't come yet but I got the email! I don't want to talk about it yet because it hasn't come but when it does - all the squeals.
This month, I was lucky to get Galgorithm, Last Year's Mistake and Most Likely to Succeed from Simon and Schuster. They have a list where you pick your top three and they send you one. Imagine my surprise when I received all three!
I also got The Revenge Playbook [which was fantastic!] so thank you Harper.
Lastly, I was able to get a review copy of 5 to 1 so thank you so much Random House.
Library
I was able to get The Evolution of Mara Dyer ande The Kiss of Decption from the library. I'm doing my best with the whole juggling thing but I really should not be borrowing books.
Won/Bought
For those who might not know, before April, the last time I bought a book was in... September? So yes, I did break my ban for these two beauties! Here are the Goodreads pages to Hollow City and Blue Lily, Lily Blue.I bought Hollow City because of the price [25% off] and Blue Lily... because it's signed by Maggie! It's the ONLY copy in the store that's signed so I had to!
Also, I won a giveaway from the k8chat and got a copy of The Kingdom Within so thank you so much for that.
Let's keep this closing short since my recap was insanely long. I hope you had an amazing April. If you didn't, let's hope May will be better. What did you do this month? Funny stories?
That swag frame looks amazing! I'm definitely going to try that out with my own merch though I will never be as artistic as you. :P And your teachers sound hilarious and real nice too - especially that librarian! LOL. Wish I'd get awesome teachers too when I start uni in August.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a great month, Nova! Happy May! :)
The collage looks awesome! Maybe I should do something like that too...I have an absurd amount of swag just lying around in a box somewhere lol. A ridiculous number of bookmarks too (I think I buy too many books from TBD haha)
ReplyDeleteHA. That conversation with your librarian is aaawesome. And you're quite lucky that your school librarian even knows all that. *grumbles* My local librarians don't seem to be up on new releases, we don't even get many new release books in. It breaks my little bookish heart. Although once I went into a second-hand store to browse and I was looking at the YA books and the store owner was stacking books and she just kind of looked at the book...and then looked at me...and said, "Do you happen to know if this is children's or adults?" AND I DID KNOW BECAUSE I'D READ IT. And she gave me a free book because of it. xD HAHA. So much awesome.
ReplyDeleteGosh, your librarian sounds AWESOME. I love my libraries but don't have much to do with the actual librarians (apart from when they give me funny looks when I carry about twenty books in my arms. You might think that is an exaggeration but unfortunately for my TBR pile it's not.) Oooh, enjoy Hollow City! I really loved both those books and can't wait for the third. ^_^
ReplyDeleteYour failed tests thing reminds me so much of my friends and I! Anything less than 95 is a fail, duh. -_- We seem to fail quite often...
ReplyDeleteHaha! I love your convos! This friend and I talk to teachers like that too! ;P It's fun. We have this thing with a teacher like "You better be nice to us cuz when we grow up and become world famous doctors and you come to us in your old age, you REALLY don't want us to decide that we want revenge when we're operating on you and tools/weapons are very close by..." (neither of us want to be doctors but just for the sake of it)!
I need to read the Superlatives trilogy! Seems quite entertaining!
You already got the email thing? I didn't... *pouts* But she said that she added me to the list... *sigh*
Ooh! I'm just about done 5 to 1 and it was really great! I hope you enjoy!!! :D
~Fari 0:)
I love that collage! That's a great idea! Isn't it fun schooling people on books when they least expect it? Have a great weekend, enjoy your books!
ReplyDeleteMichelle @ Michelle's Minions
It's great to have a good relationship with your teachers when you can joke around with them like that!
ReplyDeleteI love the swag frame - it looks fantastic, I'm hoping to get some bookish art to put in my room - there's a wall that could really do with some colour. I seriously wish my librarians were like that - we don't get that many new books in the YA section, but it's exciting to see them when they do come. Also - awesome book haul! I seriously need to read the Mara Dyer series ASAP.
Eugenia @ Genie In A Book
LOL, I love your library story :) Talk about some poeple making a presumption...
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your books!
Those conversations with your librarian and your band teacher are the best. :D
ReplyDeleteThe collage looks super cool - what a great idea!
I've been meaning to read The Kiss of Deception and the Mara Dyer series, too. hope you enjoy them!
I LOVE the frame! That is really such a perfect idea, I will be needing to do the same! The conversations are too funny too :) I am reading Kiss of Deception right now, and so far, so good! Hope you enjoy them! As for April... it was pretty much just another month. I am excited for May though!! Hope you have a great week, and of course, a great May!
ReplyDeleteShannon @ It Starts At Midnight
OMG hahaha you are hilarious! I do talk to some of my professors like that and it's fun when the rest of the classmates are like the f*ck haha And hey, you get bragging rights for being a book blogger. So just brag about it to the librarian haha And I have never gone to a book club (the closes book store is 3 hours away so I cannot go) but it does sounds fun. Try new things!!
ReplyDeleteThe Kiss of Deception is AMAZING - so I really hope you enjoy it as well as the rest of your new books! xD
ReplyDeleteHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII. >:) And lol WHOO for shoving stuffy ppl's sarcasm back in their face lol. Also that collage thing is such a freaking good idea, I have so much of it on hand O.O
ReplyDeleteOMG NOVA YOU ARE THE BEST. That convo with the librarian sounds hilarious. The collage is also adorable; that's such a cool idea. And hey, I got Last Year's Mistake too! It looks great--have you had a chance to read it yet?
ReplyDeleteBLESS my phone is always stuck on me and all i do in lectures (lol which I don't even attend so whutt???) is browse all the possible corners of ig. Once I spent two hours just watching nail art videos and I don't even like that shit LOL (and its not even like I can do it so what a waste of time haha)
ReplyDeleteTHAT COLLAGE IS SO PRETTTTTTY HEART EYES FO EVER
AND THAT KID. URGH RAGE. How can you be so respectable. Or maybe I should learn to censor my mouth a bit because damn it, I would have ripped him one.
MARA DYERRRRR
Girl, you crack me up. But I think you should totally join that book club. It could be fun! And maybe you'll meet a cute boy. :D :D
ReplyDeleteI love that collage you made of your swag, and that's a great idea! I may have to do that myself.
Love that cover for BL,LB.. such an awesome series. Enjoy your new reads!
