I Need Music Recommendations!

with 9 comments
This isn't even a discussion post... or maybe it is. I have no idea.

As you might notice, Tuesday is music day here at Out of Time. While this blog is mainly a book blog, I consider myself musically inclined and I wanted to incorporate that into my blogging!

I started going on 8tracks and recently made my own playlist. In my opinion, it's pretty cool! What I did was center it around the song "How to be a Heartbreaker" by Marina and the Diamonds where I got to play a character of a narcissistic heartbreaker in choosing the songs on the playlist. Check it out!
wicked and unapologetic from slippingunderneath on 8tracks Radio.

I would also LOVE your thoughts on this playlist because I've never made any before and this took half a week [to find the songs.]

Which brings me to the topic of the post!

I'm looking for music recommendations. I don't care what genre.
Indie, electro, acoustic covers, remixes, LAY IT ON ME! I'm not the kind of person who goes "I don't like..." because even if I say that, there's going to be an artist in that genre that I do like. An example would be "I don't like country..." but I like Elle King and she's country. [She also sounds like Meghan Trainor but I don't like Meghan...]
The only thing I ask is that you try to rec artists that are a little lesser known. Obviously, if you say "Beyonce, Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift" it's a little unhelpful since I already know/listen to them.

I'd really like artist recommendations primarily so I can look for myself but if there's a song that you fangirl over, PLEASE let me know!

And now it's my turn. If you're looking for music recs...

From 8tracks, I've found a bunch of artists that aren't very well known but are amazing. Please check out Halsey [there's a reason I put her first...], Fractures, XOV [this song is for Mockingjay... so BOOKS!], Bad Suns, Lykke Li, XYLØ [PLEASE CHECK THEM OUT... THEY'RE NEW], Daughter, Smallpools or Yeah Yeah Yeahs.  I've linked my fave songs.

I'm not telling what genre of music they are because I feel like people have biases towards certain genres, writing them off as "I'm going to hate this." At least, that's me when my friends are trying to get me to listen to hip hop. I will tell you, however, that they're all DIFERRENT. I have indie with electro and some pop-rock. LOVE ME.

I hope you enjoyed this post and I hope you can help me out! I have 750 songs right now in iTunes and I need to break 1000 before summer! And if you ever need music recs, I'm your girl!

Ooh, I love music, so I might have a couple of recommendations. So I'm just going to reel off a bunch of names--and maybe you'll like some of them. One Republic, Two Steps from Hell (they do mainly trailer/soundtrack-esque music) Lorde, Agnes Obel, Shakira, London Grammar, Lana Del Rey (I especially love Once Upon a Dream), Woodkid, Zack Hemsey (again, similar genre of music to Two Steps From Hell), Hozier.

They are mainly what I'm listening / writing to at the moment. Hope there is something there you like!

I am surprised you don't like Meghan. But then,it's your own opinion.Me and my friends love her song "All About That Bass".We choreographed weird dance moves for the song and love dancing gracelessly to it:)
As for a recommendation, you should check out my current obsession Love Me Like You Do by Ellie Goulding which is part of the soundtrack of Fifty Shades of Grey. And I think you should check out the group Lady Antebellum.Their songs are beautiful and my favourite is Just A Kiss.

IMO, Love Me Like You Do has been played way to many times now :( but I used to like it. And I do like Lady Antebellum!

Tbh, I actually HATE Meghan Train or for her mixed messages and how her songs make it sound like women should be doing things based on men. And she made this awful comment about anorexia.

Basically anything and everything by The Silent Comedy. THEY ARE GODS. Also, each song has a different 'style'. Some might be hard rock, some more pop rock, others folk or jazz.

I FREAKING LOVE DAUGHTER! I obsessed over "Youth" for at least a month this past year. It was on replay constantly . . . As for music suggestions, he he, do you have a few hours? ;)

All right, I'll keep it to my favorites: Anything by Taylor Swift (especially "Safe and Sound" and songs from "Red" and "1989"), The Civil Wars, Lorde, OneRepublic, Louden Swain, the "Doctor Who" and "Sherlock" soundtracks, Ed Sheeran, "The Fault In Our Stars" and "The Hunger Games" movie soundtracks, A Great Big World, Hozier, Imagine Dragons, Kacey Musgraves, "Carry On My Wayward Son" by Kansas (although I'm a "Supernatural" freak, so that helps contribute to the awesomeness. ;) ), "When We Were Young" by Lucy Schwartz, M83, Melanie Martinez, Mikey Wax, Mumford & Sons, "Starlight" by Muse, the "Harry Potter" soundtracks, Of Monsters and Men, Phillip Phillips, Queen, "If I Could Write" by Sam Phillips, U2, to name a few.

My blog is actually both books and music, so I'm really thrilled to see this post. I love it when people aren't afraid to try something new. That being said, I have a strange taste in music (for example, I adore the band Death Grips. If you want to try them out the songs The Fever, The Powers That B and Spread Eagle Cross The Block should give you a taste of their weird and wonderful world).

Yeah Yeah Yeahs are great, so I'm really happy that you discovered them. Their first album, Fever To Tell, is amazing. Check out the songs Maps, Y Control and Rich. I also know you're a Taylor Swift fan based on some other blog posts, so I'd recommend Natalie Prass's self-titled debut album which came out earlier this year. I reviewed it on my blog and it's some really beautiful pop. Prass has a great voice so I'd say you should enjoy it. Another incredible release from this year is Carrie And Lowell by Sufjan Stevens. It's an incredibly beautiful and touching album about the death of his mother. Many people are calling it a future classics, and I can see why.

Moving to indie, there's some great stuff there. If you want some slightly rougher (production wise) stuff, try out albums from the 90's like In The Aeroplane Over The Sea and Slanted And Enchanted. More recent albums that are great are Funeral by Arcade Fire (you've probably heard the song Wake Up somewhere. Even if you don't know the title, you'll know it) or Tourist History by Two Door Cinema Club (they're not a personal favourite but I'd say you might like them).

To be honest most people don't have a similar musical taste to me (I really don't listen to the radio at all, I prefer to find my own stuff. Because of this most of the music I listen to is either old, obscure, or both). I like lots of bands that can be quite hard on the ears to people accustomed to pop, so my recommendations are often received pretty negatively. Anyway, I hope I've been of some help. I do weekly playlists on my blog so maybe you'll find something on one of those. Once again, it's great to see someone exploring music because most people I know don't (I am only 16, so most people aren't super into music but anyway).

I have been listening to more and more music lately, so I have been discovering some amazing new artists. Andy Grammar recently came out with a new album that I absolutely love. It has a strong pop vibe in it, but some other genres are mixed in too. I am also liking Mariana's Trench right now. They are like a mix between Secondhand Serenade and Fall Out Boy. I also really like Florence and the Machine, American Authors, Bastille, and Matt Kearney.
I hope you can reach 1000 songs soon!

Right now I'm kind of obsessed with The Script and Lifehouse! Anything by them is just awesome and it speaks to my heart, the lyrics are so poetic, genious! *-*
