3xA MA: Sara Raasch

with 17 comments
I've always felt so grateful to the authors that take the time to connect with me through social media. In my mind, I'd always thought they were on an unattainable level. In this event, I want to get to know the authors; to see them for the people they are and not just as creators of your favorite book.

Note: For each post, links are left to the author's social media. If you know an author whose book has affected you [in my event or just in general,] please use one of those links and leave a nice message to them! Something as simple as "I'm such a huge fan of your work" can go a long way - you'd be surprised.

I am so excited to have the ever lovely Sara Raasch on my blog. A while back, Nikki @ Fiction Freak and I did her twitter party so saying that I'm a fan is kind of an understatement. Sara is a lovely human being who is amazing to talk ships with [*cough* Zutara and Jelsa.] Her debut, Snow Like Ashes came out last year and the sequel, Ice Like Fire is coming out in the not so distant future! ALL the squeals!

Today, Sara is here to talk about her tattoos, which is so cool!

Nova’s instructions were to write a guest post about yours truly. No pressure, right? But I didn’t want to bore you with yet more blabbering about stuff you’ve read in interviews, so I tried to think of something NEW—something interesting and quirky and snappy that most of you wouldn’t know about me.

Thus, I present to you a few pictures of: MY TATTOOS.

That’s right, folks—I’m inked. And what’s the point of getting inked if you don’t show it off?

The first tattoo I got in 2010, in honor of my grandmother, who was an avid gardener and liked (you guessed it) irises.

The second one I got also in 2010 (it was an inky year), and it is also on my back, though centered on my spine.

This one says “I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night.” It’s a quote from the poem The Old Astronomer to His Pupil by Sarah Williams. This quote grabbed me and wouldn’t let go, and I knew I had to get it as a symbol of overcoming my struggle with depression.

My third and final tattoo (at least for now, muahaha) is another literary quote.

A sparkly unicorn to anyone who can guess what book this is from! (Hint: it’s not mine.)

As much as I'm a fan of Sara, I didn't know that she had tattoos! And that's the whole point of this event - to find out awesome things we didn't know about our fave authors!

Enter the giveaway below!
Thanks for checking out my blog and remember:  Be kind to one another. - Ellen

Sara Raasch has known she was destined for bookish things since the age of five, when her friends had a lemonade stand and she tagged along to sell her hand-drawn picture books too. Not much has changed since then -- her friends still cock concerned eyebrows when she attempts to draw things and her enthusiasm for the written word still drives her to extreme measures. Her debut YA fantasy, SNOW LIKE ASHES, is coming out Fall 2014 from Balzer + Bray. It does not feature her hand-drawn pictures. She is represented by Charlotte Sheedy Literary.

Thanks so much to Sara for donating a signed hardcover of Snow Like Ashes!

I don't recognize that third quote, but I did look it up. And YAY. I love that book!! (Hopefully I have the right book in mind.)

I'm not very into tattoos myself . . . if I had to get something, I would probably pick a short book quote. It would take me forever to decide on which one. :D

I've been debating for quite a while on getting a tattoo in honor of my niece, her disease, and her continued fight. She has cystic fibrosis, so I've been thinking since college about getting a small, cursive, "just breathe" right under my bra line on the left side of my body/ribs, about where my arm would cover. That way it could be close to my heart as well. :)

I've have wanted a tattoo for over a year but I want to get something meaningful. I know I want a quote of some kind and it to somehow incorporate an owl with it because I absolutely love owls. I would also want a tattoo that says hope in the quote. Thanks so much for this awesome giveaway. I absolutely loved Snow Like Ashes and would love to own a copy.

My baby!! <3 <3 Love him so much! ;P And therefore, even though I haven't read Snow Like Ashes yet, I love this woman!! XD I'm just waiting for the 2 book to be released and then halfway to the 3rd book because I don't want to wait FOREVER to finish what everybody says is a start of an awesome trilogy but I don't wanna miss out on the anticipation either,,you know? So I'll marathon the first 2 books a couple months before 3rd book comes out and then hopefully devour that, too! :D

I have a Pinterest board with tattoos that I think are works of art that I probably wouldn't get based on size and some that I really like and could be possibilities, I lean more towards nature and words/quotes. As for actually getting one I don't know if I could finalize a decision about what and where I would put it:)

That's very difficult to decide. There are so many beautiful tattoos to choose from, such as a quote, symbol, or a flower. However I think I would get my korean name or something meaningful on my body. Thank you for this amazing chance! :)
