25 Days of Book Boyfriends: The Darkling [Day 25]

with 2 comments

Hello friends! Also, Merry Christmas! [I think it's kind of cool that I got the Christmas date.]

Anyway, I'm here to talk about one of my fave book boyfriends: The Darkling. [Also, I am sort of laughing as I write this because I'm a 14 year old girl who would rather have a book boyfriend than a real one. This is my life and it rocks.]
So, the Darkling is from the Grisha Series by Leigh Bardugo. I've reviewed the first two books in the series and I might've done the third one. I can't remember. However, I RAVE about these books. They're so well written, the characters are great and most importantly [to me] THE DARKLING.

After searching through Google, this is what I found and holy books, it's amazing. He also works so well as the Darkling and if I'm not mistaken, this is the guy that was in Taylor Swift's Blank Space video. Do you SEE why he's just one of my favorites?

Well, I must confess, I have a thing for bad guys and it's so irrational and stupid because most of them [who aren't fictional] are actually bad. There's no allure to them in real life because they're terrible people, however, in books, there's a whole other set of rules.

The Darkling is the villain. I repeat, he is the villain. And yes, I fall for the villain almost every time. It's terrible and true. However, there is no turning point in The Darkling and he doesn't miraculously become the hero, which is why some people question my liking of him. He's the bad guy.

I like to think of him as a story not told. The book is told in the main character's perspective and all the characters are so complex. I feel like The Darkling has some interesting things to say and I'm clinging on a hope that he has some good in him. At the same time, he has some of the best lines and that, above all else, is what makes him one of my favorites.

“The problem with wanting," he whispered, his mouth trailing along my jaw until it hovered over my lips, "is that it makes us weak.”  - The Darkling, Shadow and Bone

For those who haven't read the book: The main character, Alina, always had kind of a
"thing" with the Darkling. It was more implied than anything but it gave me hope and I ended up shipping them together. It's kind of strange because I'm typically someone who goes for the canon ships, but the Darkling found a way to win. And if you've read the last book -> The ending legit killed me. There was just so much heartbreak in that last sentence and I think I cried.

So yes, if you're thinking "oh my gosh, i need to read this book" my job has been done. If you're thinking "nah, I'm still for the other guy," then that's cool too! I just really love this guy and yeah, I mean everything I've already said kind of proves that!

I still need to read the final book in this series but I do love it and I can't wait to make time for it. I'm a Mal fan but I cannot deny that The Darkling is very alluring. Thanks for taking part in the tour!
