I was actually asked by Scholastic if there were any titles I wanted to request. I was recommended to Better off Friends and I'm so glad I was! I really enjoyed the cuteness of this story and gah! It was so feelsy that I ended up dancing at the end of the story.
My favorite part: I can't even decide! I think I'm at a tie with the story and characters. The story and the characters go like bread and jam! I can't say there was a "favorite part" for me, but those two stood out above others.
The story is basically of a guy (Levi) and a girl (Macallan) who are friends. But being friends with a person of a diff gender is complicated. Can guys and girls just be friends?
This story was a little typical because I had predicted they were going to be lovers at the end anyway. But in spite of that, I still really enjoyed this book. I think mainly it's very fluffy. It does have story and development (and confusion... lots and lots of that), but it's very fluffy. There was a lot of humor and jokes - especially between characters and from them. A few of the jokes happened a few too many times during the story (like Macallan and Levi's favorite TV show was mentioned like 20 times) and that kind of killed the bonding topic, but *shrugs*.
Gosh, the feels! It takes a lot to get me some feels. If I don't feel, it's very likely the review is neutral/negative. Feeling in a book (and a contemporary one at this) is very important to me. This book played ping pong with my heart. No, it didn't break it, but I was practically dying with anticipation for the characters to make the decision that I wanted while reading! You're going to have to read to ind out what that is.
I also loved the characters! Levi and Macallan meet while Macallan isn't all that nice to him. They bond over a TV show which leads to them becoming best friends. Their development of best friends isn't shown, which doesn't do anything for them as characters. I wanted that development, even though there was development in their relationship afterward.
I really connected with Macallan. She was a very confused with her feelings character for a lot of the book. Having a friend when you think he might be more is honestly terrifying. I also really loved her wit and good morals.
I actually didn't connect to Levi. He wasn't really like me, but I understood him when I was thinking like Macallan. Levi is Macallan's fun time and Macallan is Levi's serious. They compliment each other - opposites attract.
In conclusion, Better off Friends was a very fun title about the mysteries of if a girl and a guy can be friends. I really recommend this one and I really loved the writing! I'm also going to go check out Eulberg's other titles now!

For Macallan and Levi, it was friends at first sight. Everyone says guys and girls can’t be just friends, but these two are. They hang out after school, share tons of inside jokes, their families are super close, and Levi even starts dating one of Macallan’s friends. They are platonic and happy that way.
Eventually they realize they’re best friends — which wouldn’t be so bad if they didn’t keep getting in each other’s way. Guys won’t ask Macallan out because they think she’s with Levi, and Levi spends too much time joking around with Macallan, and maybe not enough time with his date. They can’t help but wonder . . . are they more than friends or are they better off without making it even more complicated?
From romantic comedy superstar Elizabeth Eulberg comes a fresh, fun examination of a question for the ages: Can guys and girls ever really be just friends? Or are they always one fight away from not speaking again — and one kiss away from true love?

[Better off Friends] displays the best of friendship and romance and how it blurs perfectly in the middle. - Nova @ Out of TimeI was actually asked by Scholastic if there were any titles I wanted to request. Yay glad that you enjoyed this one! I'm reading this one right now (because I was just approved for it and I'm trying to read it to review it in the very far future). It's definitely really cute and it sounds so cute!
