Song Review: Wake Me Up - Avicii

with 1 comment
Title: Wake Me Up
Artist: Avicii
Album: True
Release Date: October 22nd, 2013
Record Label: PRMD, Universal Island
iTunes

"Wake Me Up"

Feeling my way through the darkness
Guided by a beating heart
I can't tell where the journey will end
But I know where to start

They tell me I'm too young to understand
They say I'm caught up in a dream
Well life will pass me by if I don't open up my eyes
Well that's fine by me

[2x]
So wake me up when it's all over
When I'm wiser and I'm older
All this time I was finding myself
And I didn't know I was lost

I tried carrying the weight of the world
But I only have two hands
Hope I get the chance to travel the world
But I don't have any plans

Wish that I could stay forever this young
Not afraid to close my eyes
Life's a game made for everyone
And love is the prize

[2x]
So wake me up when it's all over
When I'm wiser and I'm older
All this time I was finding myself
And I didn't know I was lost

Didn't know I was lost
I didn't know I was lost
I didn't know I was lost
I didn't know (didn't know, didn't know)

My Thoughts

Is the whole thing with Avicii that he creates the music and yet the person who sings it is pretty much  uncredited? Because I really don't like that at all. Why can't we credit the actual singer? I mean, this guy has talent? Ugh. I will never understand this.

I don't really like this song. Despite the singer having a good voice, it sounds really upbeat and out of place. The country voice doesn't go with some of the electro pop. It doesn't fit and it's strange to listen to. I listened to CeCe Frey singing it and her version is a stripped down version of this song; that sounded so much better and more fitting.

It really is a beautiful song. The only problem is the harmony in it or lack of. There is no harmony in this song. The words don't go with the music doesn't go with the sound. It's all a mess of "I'm trying to do everything" and just no. This song has potential, but something about it just turns me off to the max.

Kind of reminds me of what happens with David Guetta-he's always credited to. Honestly, the singing is more important to me than creating a mixture or beat. I actually really like this song though xD Never thought of the " The country voice doesn't go with some of the electro pop" but you are SO right now that I listen.
