Musings of 2013: Melissa Landers

with No comments
Today, we have the awesome Melissa Landers with a short interview. Because she's busy, she wasn't able to write me a guest post, but generously accepted for a 5-q interview! Melissa Landers is the author of ALIENATED which is kind of an epically cool book I read on my iPod at 3 AM. I fell in love with it even before I finished and just wanted to ignore my sleep and read it again! Oh, and Aelyx is quite possibly the sweetest alien dude ever. (Yes, he's up there with Daemon Black)

1. What's a fear you have about your book being released?
Probably every author's fear: that it won't sell enough copies and I won't be able to continue the series. After all, publishing is a business, and sales are the bottom line.

2. Would you consider writing any other genres in the future?
Absolutely. After I finished ALIENATED, I felt inspired to write an adult contemporary romance...and then several more after that (under my pen name, Macy Beckett). I write whatever interests me, so I'm definitely open to other genres.

3. Tell us what your book is about!
My pleasure! In a nutshell, ALIENATED is about a high school valedictorian who gets more than she bargains for when she agrees to participate in an interplanetary student exchange program. It's funny and romantic with a dash of danger--just the way I like my stories. :)

4. Who was your favorite character to write about?
Without a doubt, Aelyx. He's so cold and clinical at the beginning of the book, and I enjoyed transforming him into someone a lot more "human" by the end. (By the way, he would be pissed that I just called him human. Ha!)

5. What was YOUR highlight of 2013?
Hmm...tough question. Probably seeing my cover for the first time. The designers at Disney Hyperion nailed it when they contrasted the vibrancy of Earth against the muted colors of L'eihr, which is a key plot point in the book. The overall effect is gorgeous.

Thanks so much to Melissa Landers for being part of my event! WHEEEEE!
