Owwwwh [repeats]
She, she ain't real,
She ain't gonna be able to love you like I will,
She is a stranger,
You and I have history,
Or don't you remember?
Sure, she's got it all,
But, baby, is that really what you want?
Bless your soul, you've got your head in the clouds,
She made a fool out of you,
And, boy, she's bringing you down,
She made your heart melt,
But you're cold to the core,
Now rumour has it she ain't got your love anymore,
Rumour has it (rumour) [x8]
She is half your age,
But I'm guessing that's the reason that you've stayed,
I heard you've been missing me,
You've been telling people things you shouldn't be,
Like when we creep out when she ain't around,
Haven't you heard the rumours?
(Bless your soul!...) Bless your soul, you've got your head in the clouds,
You made a fool out of me,
And, boy, I'm bringing me down,
You made my heart melt, yet I'm cold to the core,
But rumour has it I'm the one you're leaving her for,
Rumour has it (rumour) [x8]
All of these words whispered in my ear,
Tell a story that I cannot bear to hear,
Just 'cause I said it, it don't mean that I meant it,
People say crazy things,
Just 'cause I said it, don't mean that I meant it,
Just 'cause you heard it,
Rumour has it (rumour) [x14]
But rumour has it he's the one I'm leaving you for.
It was school choir when I first sang this song. That was that time where Adele had only started to get popular. She was still known as "the girl who sang Rolling in the Deep", but now... DANG. Anyway, to the review.
I don't know exactly how to put this. I found this song catchy and at the same time REALLY annoying. It didn't showcase Adele's soulful/jazzy voice as much as I wanted it to. If anything, it kind of turned into pop music with WAY to much drums. The chorus was "rumor has it" 8 times [14 for the last chorus], but you get it. No soul in the words and easily compared to something as dull as "We Are Never Getting Back Together".
What I did like, however was the "slow part" at the end - also called a bridge. Anyway, that part was smooth and very Adele-like to me. That was the little part that kind of made the entire song worthwhile. But at the same time, it created a bit of a contrast with the rest of the song.
The only other thing I liked was the execution of the song, by Adele. Just because it's a song that I don't like doesn't mean Adele sang it badly. I could feel her emotions when it came to her singing about her anger after being cheated on as well as the little sense of longing that maybe he might come crawling back for her.
This definitely isn't the best of Adele's songs. She's really big in the UK so her songs are pretty much all over the radio. I love some of her songs, though!
ReplyDeleteGreat review!
